The new BMW X1 F48 is an update of the BMW sports crossover from the family of the BMW X1 model range, first introduced in June 2015. Compared to the first generation model, the new F48 has undergone many changes. If the early version resembled a high hatchback, now the car is much more like a smaller version of the BMW X3. Car was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and later at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.

It is based on the modular front-wheel drive UKL2 platform that is shared between BMW and MINI models, instead of being based on the rear-wheel drive 3 Series Touring platform as with the previous generation X1.

In comparison, the F48 X1 has a 90 mm (4 in) shorter wheelbase, and is 23 mm (1 in) wider, and 67 mm (3 in) taller. However, the new platform has allowed for increased interior legroom, headroom, and shoulder room. The xDrive25i is marketed as the xDrive28i in North American markets.
